Team Drives Launches for G Suite Business, Enterprise, & Education

Google DriveMost file storage solutions weren’t built to handle the explosion of files that are now created and shared in the cloud — because they were initially designed for individuals, not teams. With this amount of shared data, admins need more controls to keep their data safe and teams need to feel confident working together. Team Drives deliver the security, structure and ease-of-use enterprises need by making it easy to:

  • Add new team members. You can manage team members individually or with Google Groups and give them instant access to relevant Team Drives.
  • Keep track of your files if a team member leaves. Team Drives are jointly owned by the team, which means that anything added to Team Drives stays there no matter who comes or goes. Whirlpool Corporation, for example, uses Team Drives to manage file access. Says Troy McKim, Collaboration Principle at Whirlpool Corporation, “If you place files for a project in Team Drives, you don’t have to worry about losing them or moving them when files are re-owned.”
  • Understand and manage sharing permissions. Team members automatically see the same files regardless of who adds or reorganizes them. You can also manage share permissions by defining the restrictions for editing, commenting, reorganizing or deleting files.
  • Manage and view Team Drives as an admin. Admins can see Team Drives for a user and add new members if necessary: “Team Drives also ease the speed at which a team member can onboard and become effective in their new role,” says McKim.

Team Drives are now generally available to all of our G Suite Business, Education, and Enterprise customers.

Picking the Right Productivity Cloud: Look Beyond Familiarity and Cost

News from Cumulus GlobalWestborough, MA — It is no longer a matter of “if”, but “when” small and midsize businesses will move to the cloud. For most SMBs, the first decision they make will be on which productivity cloud to use– MS Office 365 or Google G Suite. As noted in Cumulus Global’s most recent eBook, Picking Your Productivity Cloud, SMBs are wise to consider more than familiarity and cost when making this decision.

“SMBs that rely on inertia and simply go with the cloud ecosystem that is most familiar often find themselves hitting roadblocks or underutilizing the service over time,” note Cumulus Global CEO Allen Falcon. “Picking the right cloud for email and productivity tools becomes the foundation of your cloud ecosystem. A broader perspective is needed.”

Picking Your Productivity Cloud looks at six critical factors to consider when choosing between Microsoft Office 365 and Google G Suite.  Beyond cost, the eBook discusses the impact of other IT systems and applications, company culture, and business goals. The ebook is available for free in our Resource Center Library.

News from Cumulus GlobalCumulus Global Recognized for 4th Consecutive Year as a Trailblazing Solution Provider Transforming Business with Emerging Technologies

Westborough, MA, November 23 2016 – For the fourth consecutive year, Cumulus Global (www.cumulusglobal.com) is honored to announce that CRN®, a brand of The Channel Company, has named Cumulus Global to its 2016 Next-Gen 250 list. The annual list recognizes standout IT solution providers who successfully transform their businesses to meet the demands of emerging technologies such as cloud computing, unified communications, virtualization, mobility, business analytics, and business intelligence. These solution providers, all in business for fewer than 20 years, successfully adapt to an evolving marketplace with a notable penchant for bringing key technologies to their clients before they become mainstream.

“We are again honored to be recognized as an innovator,” stated Allen Falcon, CEO of Cumulus Global. “We see a fundamental shift towards transformation in how organizations work most effectively. We work hard to anticipate these changing demands and offer solutions that get results.”

Cumulus Global is a strategic solutions provider focused on enabling and empowering small and midsize enterprises by taking advantage of public and hybrid cloud services. The company works with SMB and midmarket businesses across multiple industries, nonprofit organizations, and local and regional government entities.

“Cumulus Global, like other solution providers on our Next-Gen 250 list, leads the market when it comes to working with emerging technologies and building successful practice areas around them,” said Robert Faletra, CEO of The Channel Company. “Forward thinking and agile, our honorees are among the first to architect innovative solutions to meet a brand new set of customer needs. We congratulate Cumulus Global and all of the honorees named to this exclusive list and look forward to seeing what other innovations they have in store.”

Founded as a “born in the cloud” service provider in 2006, Cumulus Global serves clients through the US and Canada. The company’s philosophy, “Cloud Forward”, is driven by the belief that cloud computing is not about replacing in-house system or changing technologies; cloud computing is about using technology and services to achieve results.

A sampling of the Next-Gen 250 list will be featured in the December issue of CRN, online at www.crn.com/next-gen250, and through the CRN Tech News Tablet App for iPad and Windows 8.

SMBs Benefit from Tech and Policy Mashup

Westborough, MA – Faced with increasing regulations and a changing technology landscape, small and midsize businesses (SMBs) struggle to ensure compliance and maintain data privacy. With the sophistication of rasonmware attacks and advanced persistent threats, employee awareness and behavior is more important than ever. Cloud technology makes it easier to share, even when sharing is not appropriate.

To help SMBs tackle these challenges, Cumulus Global (www.cumulusglobal.com) and Privacy Ref (www.privacyref.com) announced a unique partnership designed to help SMBs assess their needs and risks, plan and implement sound privacy practices, and respond to threats and potential breaches.

“Smaller businesses face the same regulations and requirements of large corporations,” noted Bob Siegel, Founder and President of Privacy Ref. “SMBs generally do not have the internal resources and expertise to create and manage a privacy program. This partnership gives SMBs a place to turn for guidance, expertise, and results.”

In addition to privacy assessments and policy updates, the Privacy Education Programs provides SMBs with the awareness education and training needed to ensure employees understand the risks and their role in preventing attacks and breaches.

“Our role is to ensure businesses can avoid and prevent malware attacks and data breaches,” noted Allen Falcon, CEO and Pragmatic Evangelist at Cumulus Global. “We ensure that the protecting technology, policies and procedures, and people are working together for the greatest level of protection.”

Through the partnership, SMBs also gain access to a range of data protection and recovery services and tools. These tools help prevent attacks and breaches and facilitate response and recovery if needed.
